The Daily Fest

Daily Fest is headin’ down to Cape Town today for the Cape Town Festival because honestly, after Monday’s Bachelor finale, all I wanna do is go get my Africa on with a hot dude named Brad who says please a lot (Shayna here, BTW, Lauren will kill me for this post). The Cape Town Fest is an annual arts fest that brings all forms of art to the masses- performing & visual arts to the masses for free. http://ow.ly/4hCgc

If our affection for boozing has not yet become apparent to you, you’re dumb. That being said, we’d like to take this opportunity to wish you a happy St. Patrick’s Day – a benevolent Irish observance that has been converted by Americans everywhere into a 24-hour excuse to get completely shit-canned. You’ll find large-scale St. Pat’s fests in Boston, Chicago, DC, NYC and other big cities across the US. This is one day where being unemployed could work to your advantage. Sláinte!

Ya’ll know we love a chance to bring up the phallic and thankfully, the Tagata Fertility Festival has popped up. Basically, folks process through the farming town Komaki with giant wooden ding-a-lings as an offering to the local Shinto deities in the hope of a bountiful harvest. Before they start their procession, the government distributes sake, because who the hell wants to cart around a giant woody without being drunk. It reminds me of that one time…

The land of Oz is rife with strange lingo, so we’re not surprised that Australia’s Moomba Festival is the largest free community event in the country. Moomba continues the tradition of epic Down Under festivals, showcasing music, art, family shit, extreme sports and the main event: the Birdman Rally. Think Redbull Flutag, minus the vehicles, plus ridiculous getups and philanthropy. Each participant chooses a charity, suits up and flings their body off into the Yarra River with the aim of “flying” further than any other jumper. There is so much more to this festival – visit their website to check out all the awesome events that go down during their Labour Day weekend. http://bit.ly/h4X1Z8

Grab your grass skirt and tiki torch, because the Pasifika Festival rages on in Auckland NZ through Saturday! Drawing over 225,000 visitors each year, this fest is the only one in the world to celebrate the culture of the South Pacific. (Think Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Tahiti, Cook Islands, hip-shakin’, island livin’ and the like.) Auckland is home to the largest expatriate population of Polynesians worldwide, so Pasifika provides a fab opportunity for the community to come together remember their roots. Huaaaa!! (That’s the sound I imagine gets made when the dance ends. No? Ok.)

You might think we here at Best of Fest are perfect, but au contraire, mon frere, we are at times braindead. Like yesterday, when
Shayna was going to tell you all about Carnaval and then forgot. So as an apology, you get a picture of a toight Brazilian bum. As many of you know, yesterday was fat Tuesday. Here in the US, we get shitty before the Lenten season and use it as an excuse to show some tatas in exchange for cheap plastic beads. In Brazil, they dress up in costumes, have giant parades and dress up in costume, get drunk and party for a week straight. Brazilians consume 80% of the yearly average of beer during this week and the government distributes condoms.

If engaging in a 60,000 person talcum powder battle sounds like a sweet-ass time to you, head on over to Santa Cruz de la Palma on the Canary Islands for el Día de los Indianos. Observed each year the Monday before Ash Wednesday, this fest is a commemoration of the huge wave of La Palma islanders that left to find work in Cuba in the 60′s, only to return donning white linen clothes, panama hats and fat wads of pesos in their pockets. Today, peeps will fill the streets and chuck baby powder at one another, so bust out the Johnson&Johnson and let it fly.
03.04.2011
Today’s Daily Fest is a little different, because bitch, we do what we want! Here are some fests happenin’ in the OC/LA area this weekend in case ya’ll just wanna fest. Festival of Whales: Dana Point, 3/5-6, Truck It Fest- Food Truck Festival, Union Station L.A. 3/5, Mardi Gras at Rainbow Harbor in Long Beach 3/5, Lantern Festival L.A. 3/5. GET OUT THERE & FEST! (and tell us about it, duh)

The San Francisco Green Film Festival is not focused around the sticky-icky (sorry, Snoop), though it is the first eco-centric film fest of its kind to take place on the Best Coast. Launching this evening in SF’s famed Embarcadero, this celebration of environmental advocacy will feature screenings of more than 70 internationally renown, sustainability-focused flicks. Tonight’s Opening Night Green Carpet Gala and showing of “Bag It” is expected to draw tree huggers, green techies and celeb activists from all over the world. (Let’s hope they carpooled.) The screenings and parties are open to the public, so make sure you arrive early enough to find a parking spot for your Prius. http://www.sfgreenfilmfest.org

As Bubba once told us, “shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey’s uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried…” the list goes on. Ft. Myers Florida is honoring the delish shellfish with it’s 53rd annual Ft. Myers Shrimp Fest. There’s a 5K honorin’ shrimps, a parade honorin’ shrimps and even a Shrimp Festival Queen honorin’ shrimps. That- that’s about it.

From time to time, we two struggle to determine whether or not something could be considered a true festival – and consequently, whether or not we should write about it. Today’s DF is one that may not be a “fest,” per se; but damnit, it deserves some coverage! All hail Beer Day, a sacred day for every Icelander! March 1 marks the end of beer prohibition, a dark time that lasted 75 thirsty years. Since 1989, our favorite bevvy has been welcomed back into the country, and every year on this day Reykjavik is abuzz (pun intended) with beer-drinkin’ shenanigans in pubs around the city. “Fest” or not, these Icepeople deserve every drop of beer they can get their hands on. Skál!!
02.28.2011
If we learned anything from Jersey Shore last season, it’s that Miami-ans know how to do the following, and well: wear small amounts of clothing, tan, eat, DRINK & have a good time. Today’s Daily Fest take’s us to South Beach where they had the 10th Annual South Beach Food & Wine Festival. Judging by the pic of Paula Deen here, it seems she did almost all of the above. If only she was in a bikini. http://ow.ly/45bb1
02.25.2011
If there were any time to light up a fat stogie and puff it down to the nubbin, today’d be the day. Our DF highlights the final dia del Festival del Habano, the 13th annual Habano Cuban Cigar Festival. This gathering has some pretty sweet goings-on, like a cigar-rolling mastery seminar, trade fair and an International Habanosommelier Contest. Tonight, the fest closes with a Gala Dinner benefiting the Cuban Public Health System. We only hope el Comandante Fidel can summon himself from bedrest to attend. http://bit.ly/dThvjK
02.23.2011
There are few (and when I say few, I mean FEW) things we at Best of Fest enjoy more than food. (Except, perhaps, beer.) We
would kill to be participating in today’s Daily Fest – the 2nd annual Doha Food Festival in Doha, Qatar, kicking off today. Last year’s inaugural fest drew 1,000s of attendees, they hope to do the same this year with food from every possible culture. Says chairman Lahdan Al-Mohannadi, visitors “will have the opportunity to sample dishes from other countries which all seek to promote cultural awareness in our amazingly diverse community.” Anyone got a tissue?
02.22.2011
There are few things we love more than saying Lake Titicaca, so thankfully, today’s Daily Fest provides us that joy. Today’s DF is Virgen de la Candelaria, taking place in Peru at you guessed it Lake Titicaca and Puno. Peruvians party in the streets all hours of the night for two weeks at this awesome fest celebrating folklore, history and mining, and of course, a devil and a virgin. Isn’t that always the way…
02.18.2011
If you’re feeling the need to boost your vitamin C intake, head on over to France for the Fête du Citron à Menton, or the Menton Lemon Festival! This is a SPECTACULAR sight for sure (think Rose Parade but sub out the flowers and sub in citrus!), with massive floats and statues composed of oranges and lemons. The 78th fest kicks off this evening & features a psychedelic light/music show that spotlights the citrusy structures. Through March 9, the over 200,000 festees can enjoy various parades, exhibitions and more lemon-centric shenanigans. This is one of the coolest events we’ve covered in a long time – take a minute to visit their Facebook page and check out pics from last year. www.fete-du-citron.com
02.16.2011
Our daily dose of festage takes us to Rajasthan, India for the annual Desert Festival. Here in SoCal, a desert fest would entail wasting gasoline by riding around on quads and dirtbikes, but in Jaisalmer (the host city) the stark desert landscape is livened by gorgeous costumes, music, acrobatics, fakirs (fakwhere?), camels and a MOUSTACHE COMPETITION! GOD I love me a good ‘stache. Did I forget to mention the turban-tying contest? Best. Fest. Ever.
02.15.2011
Today’s Daily Fest is the kind we wish could happen every day. Let’s take a little trip to Inazawa City, Japan where Hadaka Matsuri is taking place. So says What’s On When, “during Hadaka Matsuri bare-bottomed men ensure their good luck by crowding the streets of Inazawa City in the hope of touching a naked man!” OHHHH YES. Take me there now. http://bit.ly/hrDumd
02.14.2011
When you live without sunlight for 3 months out of the year, it’s high time for a party once Mr. Sun returns. Today in Reykjavik, Iceland, that’s exactly what’s hap’nin as day two of the 8th annual Winter Lights Festival rages on! Free events like art shows, street performances, puppet shows and a tango marathon(?!) get residents outside and amped for the forthcoming springtime sunshine. Warning: bring your sunglasses, as everyone’s sure to be REAL pale.
02.11.2011
Hello pet! Would you like to have a spot of tea? Fear not, because this weekend, if you happen to be anywhere near Victoria, BC, you can stop in to the 5th Annual Tea Festival! Feel free to help yourself to a gross finger sandwich and scone while you’re at it! http://www.victoriateafestival.com/
02.10.2011
Who doesn’t love a little Bachata? Well I didn’t, until I found out what it is. Now I’m pretty indifferent about it. Enough ppl do enjoy this hip-shakin’ Latin dance, though, to support the I Love Bachata Festival – going on this wknd in LA-LA land! A cool $270 gets you the VIP package, including pool parties, dance lessons, “social dancing” and the chance to get some ass. (On Sunday, green clothes = yesplease.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTnwPDSLgl0
02.09.2011
Berlin is known for a lot of things: a big important wall, it’s the capitol of Germany (and the biggest city) and is also home to today’s Daily Fest. Berlinale, short for the Berlin International Film Festival, kicks off tomorrow with about 400 films for your viewing pleasure. Most are European premieres, so there’s probably a lot of sex, nudity and cigarettes. Gut Spielfilm! http://www.berlinale.de/en
02.08.2011
Shalom, yeladim, today marks day 1 of the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival! Celebrating its 11th year, the festival kicks off this evening with a grand gala and the inaugural screening of “Jews and Baseball: A Love Story.” Through Feb. 27 the fest will draw over 20,000 people who will flock to view a total of 66 films and …attend a plethora of events, including a Young Professional’s Night (Feb. 9th). Pass the matzo.
02.07.2011
Wat the Phou?! Today’s Daily Fest takes us to lil ol’ Laos, where they are celebrating the festival of Wat Phou. While Americans get over their Superbowl hangovers, the Laotian folks are enjoying elephant races, buffalo and cock fighting, bamboo climbing, sack races and all sorts of other fun with some aged temples as a backdrop.
02.04.2011
If you’re from the OC area, you know that Garden Grove is a hub for Vietnamese culture – and this weekend GG will be goin’ OFF as the annual Tet Festival is rolls into town. Tet is the most celebrated holiday in Vietnamese culture, marking both the lunar new year and and the beginning of spring. Today through Sunday, h…it up Garden Grove Park for a healthy dose of all things Vietnamese, from tasty phở to lady pageants and everything in between.
02.03.2011
We here at Best of Fest are a lot of things, but most first and foremost, we are HUNGRY. Today’s Daily Fest is for the like-minded big kids- and BONUS! This is one you can go to! Belmont Shore’s 7th Annual Chocolate Festival is this Saturday 1-4pm. It’s free to attend, but bring some scrilla if you plan on consuming. A…nd on that note, if you don’t consume at a chocolate festival, you are a loser.
02.02.2011
If I were the Patron Saint of sore throats, I’d be kinda pissed. EXCEPT for the fact that on my feast day, people celebrate by chucking apples at a man in a clown costume whilst he climbs a mountain. This IS a real fest; I’m speaking of the Saint Blaise Festival (aka San Blas) in Ateca, Spain. Though this saint’s speci…alty is bogus, the festival in his honor sounds friggin’ sweet!
01.31.2011
Today’s daily fest actually happened over the weekend, but it’s too delicious not to talk about…The Oregon Truffle Festival! This savory 3day festival features awesome truffley events, like a seminar to teach your dog to sniff out truffles (YES!!), tons of awesome wine tastings and the MAIN EVENT: the Grand Truffle Dinner with 5 truffle-laden courses. UMAMI! Check out the grand dinner menu here: http://bit.ly/eqnwQ0
01.27.2011
Yarr mateys, we’ve got another swashbucklin’ Daily Fest on our hands – the Gasparilla Pirate Fest in Tampa, Florida on 1.29. The main event goes down with the arrival of the Jose Gasparilla, a REAL 164ft. pirate ship and a floatilla of mateys that dock and invade! To make it official, Tampa’s mayor surrenders the city to the buccaneers and drunken shenanigans ensue (cue live music and parades)! Check out this video, live from the fest: http://bit.ly/h7m2Gh
01.26.2011
Hump day daily fest! Today we’re headed to Kiruna, Sweden for the Kiruna Snow Festival– so cool, literally. Teams get a 3×3 meter cube of snow to carve into whatevah they want for the most serious part of the festival, the snow carving competition. What would you carve? Do we even want to know? http://bit.ly/dH4Vce
01.25.2011
The Scottish are badasses. Exhibit A: Up Helly Aa, a Fire Festival celebrated in Lerwick since 1880 that originated when the Vikings burnt a galley (ship) as a sacrifice to the sun. The fest has, of course, changed since then, and now incorporates TWO processions in which participants march toward these galleys, fling flaming torches onto them and watch them buuurn. Kilts optional.
01.24.2011
After a weekend of heavy indulgence, there’s not a more fitting Daily Fest than this one: Fiesta de la Vaca (Festival of the Cow). San Pablo de los Montes, Spain is getting rowdy by having a variation of another beloved Spanish heritage, the running of the bulls. They send a poor young gal running down the streets and make a boy run after her in a cow costume while everyone else bangs on cowbells. I’ve got a fever… and the only prescription is more cowbell!
01.21.2011
Today is the final day of the International Hot Air Balloon Week in Flizmoos, Austria (which, apparently, is a Mecca for ballooning fiends?). People jonesin’ for some time in a floating basket trek to Fliz-town to see ballooning teams (wtf?) gather from all over the world to show off their skillz, flyin’ high above the Austrian countryside. Sehr gut!
01.20.2011
Friday’s so close we can taste it, and right now it tastes like ALE. Today’s Daily Fest is takin’ you all the way to Manchester, England where they’re celebrating the National Winter Ales Festival. This glorious event is put on by The Campaign for Real Ale, or CAMRA, the organization that “continues to fight on behalf of you, the British drinker.” Yes, there’s an organization for that. Who says the Brits aren’t alcoholics!?
01.19.2011
This Daily Fest is kind of a cheat, but we’re so EFFING stoked we don’t care! The lineup for the 2011 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival was released last night, so we’re taking today to celebrate in advance for this hoo-rah of a weekend! (We finally got our shit together this year and will actually be attending Coachella 2011.) Rejoice, for Lauryn Hill, Ozomatli & Chromeo will be there! http://bit.ly/e1qHkv
01.18.2011
(please read in indian accent) Dehling today we are headed to the magnificent country of India for our Daily Festival. It is called the Bikaner Camel Festival and it is when we honor this majestic spitting and humped beast. You can see camel racing, camel dancing, and even camel ACROBATICS! In the name of all that is cameltastic, we highly recommend this video: http://bit.ly/hTbvMa
01.14.2011
There’s many a reason we like the Vikings: they like to get drunk, they wear fur and leather, they’re big burly men, and of course, the HATS. Today’s Daily Fest takes us to the Scalloway Fire Festival in Shetland, Scotland, where the Vikings get even cooler- they are TOTAL pyros! Check the vid from ’08: don’t worry, no ponies were harmed in the making of this video. http://bit.ly/ebjUgL
01.13.2011
Let’s talk aboot today’s Daily Fest: it’s Igloofest in Montreal, Canada, eh! This three weekend-long music fest draws country’s hottest electro artists, who will do their best to warm up the crowd (its fuh-REEZING there) across three stages. The official Igloofest website reminds attendees that boozing helps warm the insides, eh?, and that tasty liquid “heaters” are available throughout the facility. Gots ta love our northern neighbs.
01.12.2011
‘Tis a wondrous, meat-filled week in Malargüe, Argentina – they’re celebrating the National Kid Festival! (We’re talking chivitos, peeps, not toddlers.) Young goats aplenty are axed and racked over those raging Argentine infernos, providing tasty delights for all in attendance. Devastatingly enough, I missed the entry deadline for consideration as the National Kid Festival Queen. Maybs next year.
01.11.2011
The Daily Fest is takin’ us to Australia again for no better reasons other than that the Aussies rule and Shayna is incredibly biased. Sydney Festival is among us, a cultural gala of dance, music, theater, art, film and drunk people. Music acts include Gold Panda, Sufjan Stevens, Beach House & Holy F!ck to name a few. Oh, and a bunch of stuff is free. RIGHTEOUS. http://bit.ly/ic4lR4
01.08.2011
What sounds better than watching costumed peeps trying to knock eachother out? That’s just what’s going on today in Ronse, BE for the annual Bommel Festival. This fest turns the chore of packin up Xmas decor into a fat citywide party where ppl get into costume & form a moving mosh pit through the streets. Today’s CrazyMonday, the last day of the fest, meaning everyone gets real drunk. I wonder if they serve waffles.
01.07.2011
Turns out, Miami has more going for it than humidity and a Will Smith jam. The Beaux Arts Festival of Art kicks off tomorrow at
the University of Miami’s Lowe Art Museum, where 240 student artists and crafters will showcase their best shit. This thing is a huge competition (prizes totaling $20,000US) featuring 11 art media categories, including jewelry, wood, oil & acrylics, watercolor, photography and ceramics. The art is judged and available for purchase – plus, visitors can take in sweet tuneage and send their kids off to do art projects while they wine and dine themselves. PS admission is free!
01.06.2011
Just about everything in the US seems to be made in China, but sadly, they’re keeping the good stuff for themselves. Like today’s daily fest, Haerbin Bingdengjie, also known as Harbin Ice Lantern Festival. It started yesterday and goes til Feb. 5 and basically, the city is turned into a giant ice sculpture. The Big Picture does it better justice than our words can. FREAKING AWESOME. http://bit.ly/ffNiOI
01.05.2011
Hola, amigos! Today es the Procession of the Three Kings and es eselebrated in every town across Espain. Peeps across the country gather in the estreets to greet Los Reyes Magos (the magi dudes), who eshower the crowds with esweets and other treats. These kings act as the Father Christmas of hispanic culture, and it es they who the niños are excited to esee. Each night of January 5 the kids fill their eshoes with estraw and place them on the windowsill; hopefully, the next morning, they’ll find esome gifts in there. Tonight’s agenda: get esome estraw before sundown.
01.04.2011
The Daily Fest for today involves a German Christmas Market, ice skating, mulled wine, music – and all for free! But not for much longer…hurry your ass over to London’s Hyde park, where the last day of the annual Winter Wonderland celebration is goin’ down. We heard Santa even came back after his Dec. 24th rounds, but don’t expect him to be waiting for you on his big red chair…check out the bar first. Ho, Ho, Ho.
01.03.2011
First Daily Fest of ’11: ConFest in Deniliquin, AU, an “alternative” lifestyle fest in which one should plan on doing lots of the following: Workshops, play shops, singing, dancing, discussions, tai chi, yoga, jamming, alt. technology, vegetarian market, fire twirling, circus skills & more. What they fail to mention is that you should plan on doing the above with 2500 naked, long-haired hippies. Happy New Year, indeed.
12.30.2010
Daily Fest time! If anyone knows how to fest it up, it’s definitely the Mormon’s up in Provo (hello, have you seen Sister Wives?) Those crazy fools are gettin’ festive celebrating WINTERFEST, a celebration of the reason for the season, sweet little baby Jesus. They’ve got parades, Santa, a living nativity and the finale: a New Years Celebration… probs no champagne toast at midnight though :/ http://bit.ly/fRlaYa
12.29.2010
Whenever a fest is afoot in Amsterdam, we as obsessors of the city feel obligated to report on it. Thus, it is with great joy that we present to you today’s Daily Fest: TANGOMANIA 2010! This 5day festival is a celebration the sultry Argentine Tango – you know, the dance Gomez and Morticia Addams perform in the major motion picture “The Addams Family Values.” Check out the lessons, lectures and daily “tango cafe’s.” http://bit.ly/fFClID
12.28.2010
Hope everyone is feeling nice and fat after the holidays!!! Time for the Daily Fest! Over in our once-home, Spain, today is the Verdiales Festival. It’s a flamenco music fest where apparently, the competing “pandas” come out.The Verdiales dance style is generally for couples and involves a lot of leaping. Leaping and pandas, now if that’s not a fest, we don’t know what is. http://bit.ly/dHuk5v
12.21.2010
Today’s daily fest takes us to Oaxaca, Mexico, where sombrero-clad men are feverishly whittling radishes into figurines for the annual Radish Night Festival. Everyone gathers in a plaza to fiesta down and with music, dancing, piñatas and what else, buñelos (DONUTS!!!!). How radishes and donuts are related here, we’re not entirely sure, but we’ll take it. DONUTS!!!!!!!!!
12.22.2010
Today’s festive selection falls within one of our favorite categories – BEER. We are celebrating the Atwater Block Bock Fest, in which Hopcat Brewing (rated 3rd best beer bar in the world by Beer Advocate) will be releasing three new and tasties: Devil’s Bock, Winter Bock and VooDoo Vator. Anyone headed to Grand Rapids, MI, schwig a pint for us! And click here to check out their ha-yooge beer list: http://bit.ly/eRuKxg
12.21.2010
Santo Tomás is the patron saint of – say it with me – Chichicastenago, Guatemala, and the festival honoring him is the subject of today’s Daily Fest! The best part of this celebration is that all Guatemalans come together to party – and it’s a serious fiesta, people. Firecrackers, beating drums, incense, bright-ass colors and endless wild dancing are just the beginning. Take a look at this sweet photoblog, the first pic says it all: http://on.msnbc.com/dYjwzo
12.20.2010
You think pirates are the only thing from Penzance? Well guess what, you’re wrong. Penzance is also home to the Montol festival, today’s Daily Fest! The Montol Festival celebrates Cornish tradition (yes, Cornish as in game hens). One of the main fixtures of the fest is Guise dancing, a celebration of mischief, topsy turvey, and role reversal. Saucy, you Corns!
12.17.2010
Being the two indulgent ladies we are, oversized things are generally welcome in our sphere (eg. milkshakes, beers, men’s arms, etc.). Therefore, the Giant Lantern Festival in San Fernando, Philippines is right up our alley! Each Dec. 18 ginormous 6-meter parols (the lanterns) are lit up and paraded around after midnight mass. The evening’s apex comes when the crafter of the most beautiful parol is chosen and honored before the entire crowd. These things can be pretty spectacular…check out some examples by doing a Google image search for “Filipino parol.”
12.16.2010
Lichterschwimmen – another one of those awesome words that makes you feel like you can do a great European accent. It’s also the daily fest for December 16! This yearly Swiss tradition happens in Zurich, and involves hundreds of young schoolkids getting together to sail tiny candlelit ships off of the wharf and onto the river Limmat. Aside from the gorgeous effect of the lights on the water, it’s a great excuse to put on a hefty beer jacket and get outside. We’ll bring the fondue.
12.15.2010
Happy humpday festers! Humpday seems apropos today because The Daily Fest is Swaziland’s Incwala, or the Festival of the First Fruits. Basically it honors the royal fam as a source of fertility for the entire nation. There are so many jokes we could make here (and you know we would), but perhaps you’d like to try? Come on, show us whatchu got.
12.14.2010
No, it’s not a festival that celebrates lighting farts on fire…but it’s just as great! The annual FLAMBARTS FESTIVAL in Dreux, France began when the Druid priests went to gather sacred mistletoe on the night of the Winter Solstice. (who they were gonna kiss, we do not know.) These days, the fest has become far more grand – peeps get gussied up in fancy dress clothes and parade down the old streets to traditional Frenchie accordion tunes. If we were there, we’d be Flambarting all over the place.
12.13.2010
Feliz Navidad beetches, es tiempo por Fiesta del Dia: Festival Navideño en Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. All week they’ve got a nativity exhibition and Christmas carols all over the city. Then on the 18th, they end it all with a big “AY!” and have a procession followed by a fiesta complete with Kermes, Piñatas, Raffles, Music, food and hopefully, TEQUILA. Feliz, indeed!

News flash: Hanukkah isn’t the ONLY festival of lights. Today’s Daily Fest is spotlighting the Fête des lumières of Lyon, France, in which light = awesomeness. On this day, Lyon dwellers line their windowsills and doorways with lit candles to honor Catholicism’s #1 mama, the Virgin Mary, for sparing the town from the plague back when medical treatment included hot towels and bedrest. Light it up, yo!

Happy Monday! Today’s DAILY FEST is: Thailand International Balloon & Adventure Sports Festival 2010. Earth, Wind & Fire are this year’s organizers and the website boasts that the 150,000-300,000 attendees should expect to “get away, get free, get some air, get a thrill, get high, get wet, get amazed.” Sounds good to us! http://bit.ly/dPSZ5H
12.03.2010
The Daily Fest: Charles Dickens Festival in Port Jefferson, NY… these fools love gettin’ all 19th centuried out and have events like a Lantern Dedication Ceremony, a Crystal Ball and of course, A Christmas Carol. This fest sure beats the Dickens out of… um… well I don’t know but I just wanted to use that. Shoot. http://bit.ly/hFH6v2

Thursday, DEC. 2′s Daily Fest: Dubai National Day Festival! Who doesn’t love a little independence? This fest celebrates the day that Dubai broke away from British colonial rule – finally gaining the rights to seek out dental care.
